Last year, an elder and noted theologian in the Presbyterian Church in America was given a task of such immense importance the General Assembly diverted overtures to make it happen.
I just think they don't care, at all... Had a visiting minister acting as a fill-in pastor at my church who upon looking him up to see his work, retweets Shawn Mathis and "Mallard Reborn" on his X account. Oh, and he doesn't want to be ruled by Jews and women. Sigh.
The theological foundation behind race-based nationalism is always a form of natural theology involving an appeal to orders of creation or natural ends that are distinct from, and remain distinct from, God’s saving work in Christ as attested in Scripture. It will be impossible to definitively reject race-based nationalism while simultaneously affirming the natural theology that upholds it.
There are many issues within Baptistic circles, but I thought the big selling point of Presbyterianism was that the leadership (DeYoung) was supposed to be able to drive the schismatic and errant (Swain, et al) out of the PCA via their well formed policy and guidelines.
This observation is not to cast stones at Presbyterian brothers and sisters, merely to note that I have yet to see a form of ecclesiastical polity that cannot be undermined or negated through corrupt leaders. The New Testament is clear - we should not be working with or sharing fellowship with men like this. They must be opposed and expelled, not matter the personal cost, or the ideological cancer metastasizes and spreads (“like gangrene” 2 Timothy 2:17).
Good luck to KDY and his reform efforts - he’s going to need it. If he isn’t himself already quietly sympathetic to some of what they are doing.
