I haven’t been writing much in the long form lately, as I’m deep into what I plan to be at least a year of intense study on the history of American revivalism and the rise of what I’ve termed the religion of Cultural Evangelicalism—something I believe is akin to the Second Great Awakening.
FBC Dallas has a long, distinguished history and was once considered the flagship church of the SBC. For a 94 year period in the 20th century, they were pastored by two men: George W. Truett and W.A. Criswell.
Criswell was especially known for his conservative theology and politics. A young Paige Patterson was once the president of the church's Criswell College. Patterson is now once again a member of that church.
To make a long story short, conservative politics are in the DNA of that church. Jeffress has kicked it up a couple of notches.
It is disgusting for women to support this in any way, shape, or form. They are a disgrace to all women. Better wake up gals before your rights are totally eroded.
I don’t know if you are aware that the photo that was posted is an AI creation. The original photo was quite different clothing-wise. They were wearing casual jeans, sweaters boots etc. Maybe Jeffress posted it because he thought it was funny, after all, he did put “church ladies” in quotes and I thought that was weird until I saw the original photo.
I can find no earlier instance of this photo, web searches are saying Jeffress was the first to post it, and AI image detectors are saying that this is a genuine picture. Do you have a link to the one you say is the original?
I just saw your question. I don’t have notifications enabled. My sister had sent me what she had seen as the original photo. That was so long ago now I can’t find her text. However, now that I am searching for the original, I’m getting conflicting information on this. Grok states the photo in your article is almost certainly AI heavily edited. Google Gemini states the exact opposite and neither can find the photo my sister had texted me🤷🏻♀️. So now I’m left wondering if the “original” she sent me was AI. I will continue to hunt.
I now have both photos. I don’t think I can post photos here though. I ran them both through Grok AI and Google Gemini AI and both agree the photo of the ladies in the dresses has been AI heavily edited.
Some tells according to Gemini:
Environmental Errors: Looking closely at the bottom image, there are visual glitches where the dresses meet the floor and "ghosting" effects around the edges of the figures.
Source Verification: Dr. Robert Jeffress, who is tagged in the post, confirmed the original casual photo was real, while the version with the matching white gowns was a satirical or manipulated edit that circulated later on social media platforms like Threads and TikTok.
The edit was likely created as a parody of the "Stepford Wives" aesthetic or to poke fun at the perceived uniformity of the group's political support.

Notably, Truett's most famous speech is an ode to the First Amendment and the separation of church and state.
First time I hear a pastor advise the flock on their vote is the last visit I make.

I would implore you to go beyond the politics of it and think about the deeper, spiritual issues I raise in the piece.
